Experienced Tool and Die Maker (2nd Shift, Full-Time)
$26.00–$36.00/hour + $1.50/hour Shift Premium
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 2:00pm–12:00am
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Plant Manager or Team Lead, the Experienced Tool and Die Maker will perform all bench and machine operations to construct, alter, and repair tools, dies, and gages requiring skill and a basic knowledge of tooling practice and application.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works from blueprints, work orders or oral instructions to make quality tools according to customer specifications.
2. Develops new products and qualifies new tools throughout the shop.
3. Performs recognized machining operations, occasionally improvising standard tooling for special adaptations.
4. Communicates with members of all departments to prove out new tooling and update existing tools to improve shop performance.
5. Performs exacting bench operations to fit, assemble, adjust, align workpieces to ensure quality standards and customer specifications are met.
6. Uses visual sample comparisons, fixed gages, height gages, calipers, micrometers and/or other available equipment to assure customer specifications are met.
7. Assists tool makers of higher classification on more complicated projects and experimental and development work.
8. Works on new customer samples needed or improves existing tools.
MARGINAL RESPONSIBILTIES:
1. Check machine coolant/concentration levels and service as needed.
2. May be directed to perform other tasks due to a decrease in the work load, machine being down for maintenance or a critical need exists in another area.
Requirements:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Two year technical degree in Machine Tool Mechanics plus a minimum of two years of machining experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required for this position.
2. Must have related classroom instruction on welding and CNC machines, including programming and running.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
1. Ability to read and understand blueprints.
2. Ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
3. Knowledge of the use of fixed gages, height gages, calipers and micrometers.
4. Must possess knowledge of lathes, mills, drills, and grinders.
